Purpose Statement

The Office of Greek Affairs is a vital component in providing a high quality experience for all associated University of Mississippi students. Our purpose is to promote student engagement in the areas of service, scholarship and civic responsibility. We will facilitate and foster:

·         Educational opportunities that provide a safe and healthy experience

·         A community that embraces respect and integrity

·         Positive collaboration amongst the Greek community

·         Clear expectations in the area of academic success

The Office of Greek Affairs will motivate and encourage students to maximize their full potential and to explore new areas for growth and development.

Welcome

Welcome to Greek Life at Ole Miss! I am very proud of our community and all that we have to offer through the Greek experience. We have an incredibly strong Greek system, and we are growing stronger every day. I hope that you will explore the opportunity to become a part of one of the many chapters’ the University of Mississippi has to offer.

The Greek system is comprised of three governing councils, each working with specific chapters on the campus. Our chapters vary in size, ranging from 3 to more than 200 members. The Greek experience has much to offer students that choose to be a part of it:

  1. Academics- the fraternities and sororities continually perform above the all men’s and all women’s average.
  2. Leadership-whether it is serving as an officer in the chapter or an officer with the Associated Student Body, Greek men and women are involved on campus serving in the many leadership positions available.
  3. Philanthropy-each year, the fraternity and sorority community raises nearly $500,000 to benefit charitable causes in the local community, state, nation, and world.
  4. Community Service-the members of our chapters believe in more than just providing to our local community through philanthropic work, they know the value of one’s time and are always willing to lend a hand where needed.
  5. Education-throughout the year, members have the opportunity to take part in educational opportunities through speakers, discussions, and leadership opportunities.
  6. Involvement- Greeks are involved! They participate in intramurals, athletics, religious services, student government, cultural programs, religious activities, social events, and personal and professional development, among others.

It is my personal hope that you will take time to research all that the Greek community has to offer at Ole Miss. With 31 national chapters to choose from, you have a wealth of choices. Remember that this is a lifetime commitment and not just an experience that will last during your undergraduate tenure at Ole Miss. We hope to see you at our events and look forward to seeing you as a member in our immediate future. Go Rebels! GO GREEK!
